Summer Dye Workshop

The Fredericksburg Spinners and Weavers Guild would like to introduce an outstanding learning opportunity.  The Guild is hosting a multi-day/part dying workshop that will cover many facets of fiber dying, from beginner to more advance topics specifically geared toward certain artist groups.

The signup sheets are on the Guild bulletin board.  Please pay when you sign up and put payment in the Treasurer’s drawer.  And PLEASE label your payment so we know which class(s) you are paying for.

Introduction to Dyeing Fibers

Introduction to Dyeing Fibers – Focused on the background of chemical dyeing and how to do it. If you have ever picked up a book about dyeing or catalogue of materials and found the terminology or details overwhelming, this day will help you to see and understand the tools and processes of chemical dyeing. Handouts, catalogues and directions will accompany all information. If you are like me, sometimes even after the workshop, details slip your mind and you wish you had specific instructions to follow. This course will provide it all in an easy to follow format.

Creating Colorful Fibers

Have you ever wanted to have the skills to make those beautifully color fibers that you see at the wool festivals? This workshop is all about getting hands-on experience with dyeing. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yarns/fibers to experiment on. We will be hand painting fibers to create both monochromatic skeins of yarn (or roving) as well as learn techniques for dyeing multi-colored skeins (or roving). All participants will receive written directions, information on suppliers, and take home a sampling of the day’s techniques. If you are like me, sometimes even after the workshop, details slip your mind and you wish you had specific instructions to follow. This course will provide it all in an easy to follow format.

More Hands-On Colorful Fiber Dyeing!

Date: Saturday July 13th

Time: 10am to 4pm (with break for lunch)

Cost: $75.00

This day of fiber dyeing processes has a variety of dyeing techniques that are good for both shorter and longer lengths of fiber that need to be dyed. This day is all about COLOR! If you are a weaver or just taking on a larger project and want to create distinctive yarns, this class will provide the opportunity to learn how to do this! Bring your own fibers or just take home a sampling of the ones we dye in class. All processes are hands-on! Most knitters, spinners and weavers are tactile learners and what better way to learn than doing it yourself. We all take classes with the best of intention to do a process at home, but, sometimes, even after the workshop, details slip your mind and you wish you had specific instructions to follow. This course will provide it all in an easy to follow format. Written directions, suppliers and samples of each technique will be provided to all participants in the workshop. Come and create your own distinctively colored fibers and learn to do it at home!
