Shibori Demo for Sept. 14th Meeting

I’ll demonstrate a shibori technique at September’s meeting (Sept. 14). If you want to make your own sample I’ll have a dye bucket for you to use. Please bring the following supplies: a 12″x 12″ piece of white or light-colored cotton cloth (the dye used is Procion MX which is for cotton, silk, or plant-based only:I’m using an old dress shirt of my husband’s; this has a good weight and weave for shibori), some upholstery thread or nylon thread suitable for your fabric (sewing thread will not work), a long needle that will accomodate the upholstery thread, small scissors for cutting the thread, bucket and sealable plastic bag for transporting cloth and liquid dye. Optional: pen/pencil for drawing pattern on the cloth, circle or other templates. You will need a seam ripper to use at home.

We will not be able to finish our pieces during the meeting, so bring a bucket and plastic bag so you can transport the fabric and dye home to finish. All you have to do is wait for 1.5 hours after the I add the dye-fixative, then rinse, rinse, rinse!!! Then use a seam ripper to cut the threads to see what you’ve done.

See http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/dyeing-fabric-shibori-techniques for an example. Simply gorgeous!!!!!
